It’s pretty common to have an employee or two in any company who seem to just not really care about the job, to not understand it, and to not really feel confident in their abilities. Sometimes, it’s just because this isn’t really the right job for them, but that’s not always the case. A lot of the problems involving low morale, an unenthusiastic staff, or general disinterest on the part of one or several employees actually has its roots in poor training.
Your senior employees know the job, certainly, and in a perfect world, that would be more than enough to be able to teach the new recruits everything they need to know to be proud, competent contributors to the company’s goals. Unfortunately, this isn’t always how it works. If you go to school for eight years to become a doctor, you’re not necessarily qualified to teach at the medical school you just graduated from right away. Rather, you’ll need a degree in teaching, as well. The same goes for on the job training. Knowledge of the job is requisite to actually teaching the skills and duties involved to new employees, but it’s only one half of the puzzle.
The other half is the actual ability to teach.
This, of course, is where the trainer training system comes in; turning great employees into great teachers. When your top employees know exactly what works when it comes to training new employees, knowledge spreads like a virus.
Even if your trainers are already “competent” when it comes to teaching, you can still improve your training process with trainer learning services. These can help to accelerate learning, training your senior employees to get the information across more quickly, more efficiently, and more effectively.
Many trainer learning services have taken to teaching executive presentation skills training courses, as well. These can come in handy for those of us with great ideas, but who are a bit lacking when it comes to clearly and effectively getting those ideas across.
When you train the trainer, skills spread like wildfire. Traditionally, training new employees is a sometimes-frustrating process of trial and error. Training the trainer, your senior employees receive the tools and abilities to get the information across with laser-like precision and speed.
Again, nobody is born knowing how to teach. Knowledge of the job has to be coupled with knowledge of how to teach, or else it can be very hard for older employees to pass their experience on to new recruits. Studies have shown that more effective training results in happier, more enthusiastic, better skilled employees, a better work environment, and improved productivity. If your crew is suffering something of a sag, in work environment, in company morale, in productivity, the root of the problem may very well be in the training. It’s hard to do your job well when you don’t enjoy your job, and it’s even harder to enjoy your job when you don’t understand it. Trainer training ensures a capable, happy, competent staff.
