The glass perfume bottle finally made its debut in America in the mid-1700s when such bottles began to be imported from England.

 

It was not until the 18th century that perfume bottle designs were taken seriously. In the 1800s, designers in New England started to experiment with different colors, sizes and shapes, creating a myriad of beautiful antique perfume bottles that we see today. One designer even came up with a perfume bottle that resembled the Liberty Bell in 1876! Throughout the 1900s, collectors grouped perfume bottles by styles. As a collector, you may have come across styles and designs like the Steuban, Imperial, Victorian, Art Deco and Art Nouveau (glistening colors).

 

With the extensive variety of shapes, styles and cuts available, you will be spoilt for choice when picking that ideal antique perfume bottle to augment your collection. Just bear in mind that there is some uniqueness in the bottles created during a specific period. For instance, hand painted scenery were popular designs for perfume bottles created during the Edwardian era. As for those made in the Victorian era, gold was often used. In fact, because such perfume bottles were so exquisite, it was fashionable to use them as a jewelry piece or decoration in the 1880s.
