Looking for cheap acne cures? Your local drugstore may be just what you’re looking for. Some acne tips to clearer skin overlook these products. When treating acne with over the counter medications its important to know what ingredients you’re looking for in a product and what they do. There are 2 most commonly used ingredients, Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide, but they do very different things. Let’s take a look at the first one- Salicylic Acid.

Salicylic Acid is a deep cleansing skin peel agent that gets right into the pores of the skin. It cleans out clogged pores as well as any skin debris on the surface, so it is very effective in the treatment of acne. It can also stimulate new skin cell production. You will find this ingredient in most of the “acne cleansers”. It’s important to know that all products affect people differently, however, for the most part if you follow the directions these over the counter medications can and most often do work just as well as prescription medications. It’s basically expensive vs cheap acne cures.

Benzoyl peroxide is an antibacterial agent and it works by killing P. acnes. It is used in acne treatments in concentration ranging from 2.5% to 10%. Contrary to popular belief, research has proven that 2.5% benzoyl peroxide is just as effective as 10% benzoyl peroxide, and is better tolerated. The best result would be achieved by combining 2 washes a day using a product containing Salicylic Acid, followed by any one of the following products.

So why would anyone use products without these ingredients? People who have Sensitive skin or are pregnant or Nursing! Also, for people with mild acne, these products work perfectly.  So don’t write them off just yet.
